Horse Races at Aintree and tweed

The horse race at Aintree was very timely with my recent jabber on tweeds and sport uniforms.

My Swing Bill came10th in the run and  two other horses had to be put down due to the fatal injuries. But beyond this I have no more  information to impart on you and my nominal knowledge of sweepstaking terminates ...which is fine since I have received my bet collaterally with  my colleagues on benevolence of the company and am happy to contribute a miniscule share in the beautiful tradition.

But in light of the event, along with the plummeting temperatures, I am taking advantage to celebrate tweed, virgin wool and goode olde Scottish weavers.

My choice falls on Houndstooth tweed- only by reason of not having any other in my possession.
Many will probably recognize the twills, recalling despiteful teaching staff at school.
Nevertheless, the fabrics are grand and the names contribude to the culture!

So I don my Houndstooth jacket, emphasizing the style with immaculate details: the firm collar, the suede tie, the gold watch and the messenger bag. Remember- attitude is not an accessory and better be left at home.

To break up the stiffness of the look- pair it up with casual jeans, funky chinos or flowery  trousers; Anything, as long as it is not from the same tweedy family but also not overly dis-balancing. With the good tweed jacket and an accent on the details the rest should merely serve as a background . This why I suggest to remain in the same colour palette and to go for a simple cut.

And yes, don't forget brogues...ok,loafers would do too.
Although I am not keen on all sorts of gumboots (Wellingtons) due to their sheer incapability to retain any bodily warmth; by all means do wear them if you are convinced you can carry the look all the way through. Good luck!
